Perspective means a lot for the artist. An artist painstakingly thinks about the backdrop for the event he/she is attempting to capture. Any event an artist attempts to portray is hugely shaped by the context in which it is set. What kind of artist would attempt to capture a romantic scene with an atomic bomb exploding in the background?
Unfortunately folks, an unproportionate number of us tote a worldview/ perspective that is not wholly other than that of the artist that thinks the background has little to do with the foreground! Or worse yet, we let the foreground put the background into context rather than letting the background put the foreground into context! Does the Holocaust, Columbine, Nickel Mines, September 11, Iraq, deceit, politics, America, and Obama’s victory shape your view of the deity, or does your view of the deity shape your view of war, love, and America? Is it possible for us to place the foreground in the perspective of what God has done, is doing, and will do? I am blatantly choosing to serve a hysterically historical God! What do you see behind that dirty bomb exploding on a civilian’s doorstep? From my perspective I see, in the background, God’s kingdom extending into infinity, advancing, spreading, even growing exponentially via love, servant hood, and peace. This kingdom inaugurated by and through Christ is advancing to redeem the foreground by which we have so long been blinded. This is what God historically has been doing, is doing, and will continue to do (through he church may I say). From the bottom of my heart, “Lord, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven!” For those that know me…I wont even apologize for harping on that prayer again…its worth praying.
